The Importance of Choosing the Right Contractor

We have all heard the horror stories of the contractors who don’t call back, who don’t show up on time (or at all!), or worst of all show up and do a very poor job. The importance of choosing the right contractor can make the difference between a dream project and a never-ending nightmare.

Check out the tips below to help you choose your next contractor:

• Do they arrive on time? If they are late for the first appointment, it is not likely to get better.

• Do they act/look/speak professionally? Do they use profanity?

• Can they answer your questions and seem to be genuinely interested? Do you feel at ease?

• Ask them if they clean up the work site at the end of each day.

• Do they immediately suggest paying ‘cash’ instead of invoicing for the work?

Any of these may be signs that the contractor ‘just might not be that into you’. Ensure that you feel comfortable and ask the questions that you need answered. Remember, sometimes the lowest price can also mean the lowest quality of work. Choose a contractor who has a fair price and gives you the impression that they act with integrity and can be trusted. These qualities may just end up saving you more money in the end!
